Solar Energy Corporation of India alloted ReNew 300 MW of energy projects and Greenko 900 MW in Clean Green Power space.
The tender demanded power supply with power storage distribution capabilities.
For 300MW, ReNeW has ordered all storage be on low cost Lithium ion batteries imported from China.
What they are choosing to ignore is
A. the environmental impact of scaled out power grid stored Lithium ion batteries. Leaked fluids will mess up livestock, rivers, forests and indirectly spread to humans.
B. 12 hours of electricity storage for the whole system. Roughly $2 Tn. Does not scale as smoothly as coal and gas plants.
C. China Occupied Tibet, mines Lithium and pollutes the whole south and SE asia through rivers already.
D. Current recycling techniques waste battery cells more by burning them.
The capital and running cost of Li ion batteries does not account for the cost of environmental impact.
